Working offline
Make a company file available without a connection, understand what remains possible offline and where the data is kept on the device.
NovaFisko remains usable when the connection drops: on a train, at a client's premises, during an outage. The company file is copied to your device, you keep consulting and entering data, and your changes are sent to the server as soon as the connection is back. This page explains how to prepare a company file and what you can do without a network.
Making a company file available offline
- Open the company file, then the Settings tab.
- Go to the Offline section.
- Click Make available offline. A bar shows the progress: "Downloading company… 42 / 60".
- When it is finished, the section displays "Available offline · updated just now".
The download copies everything needed to work: the company sheet, the fiscal years, the journals, the chart of accounts, the VAT codes, the third parties and their balances, the entries of the fiscal year, the documents with their lines, the bank, the fixed assets, the trial balances, the annual accounts, the VAT of the year, the Quality checks, the settings, the integrations, Peppol and the licence.
If some items could not be downloaded, for example because a module is not enabled, a message gives their number. The rest of the company file can be used.
Tick Download this company automatically when it is opened for the company files you often work on while travelling. The local copy is then refreshed every time you open the company file with a connection.
To refresh an existing copy manually, the same button becomes Update.
Knowing whether you are online
A synchronisation indicator is permanently visible in the application. It has four states.
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Online | The server responds, everything is synchronised. |
| Offline | The server cannot be reached. You are working on the local copy. |
| Syncing… | Changes are being sent or received. |
| Conflicts (n) | Some changes require your decision. |
Offline, a banner reminds you: "Offline: your changes are saved on this device and will sync when the connection is back". The screens also show the date of the data displayed: "Data from … (offline)".
The application tries to reach the server automatically every 20 seconds. You have nothing to do to go back online.
What you can do offline

Unavailable actions are marked "Requires a connection". Data that has never been downloaded displays "Data not available offline".
An entry made offline receives a provisional number. The server assigns the final numbering at synchronisation time, in order to guarantee the continuity of the numbers in each journal.
Spotting what is waiting to be sent
Every item created or changed offline carries the Pending sync badge. The Synchronisation panel, opened from the indicator, lists the Pending changes with their type and nature: creation, update, deletion.
As long as a change has not been sent, you can remove it with Discard local change. It will then never be sent to the server and disappears from the device.
Where the data is
The local copy is saved on the device, in the storage space of the application. It is encrypted (AES 256). The Synchronisation panel shows, under Local data, the space used and the name of the device.
The Clear local data button removes the downloaded company files and the document previews from the device. Nothing is deleted on the server. Your pending changes are kept and will be sent at the next connection.
The local copy is specific to one device and one installation. A company file made available on your laptop is not available on another workstation. On a shared computer, clear the local data at the end of your session.
If local storage is not available, for example in a private browsing window, the application reports it and works online only.
Before you travel
- Open each company file you want to take with you and check the mention "Available offline" with a recent date.
- Check in the Synchronisation panel that the list of pending changes is empty and that no conflict is open.
- If you intend to consult supporting documents, open their preview once: it is then kept in the local copy.
